THE GREAT CONNECTOR...Ronald Reagan (1911-2004), by Gayle Hallgren

text
THE GREAT CONNECTOR.

It is interesting that the outpouring of appreciation and respect
for Ronald Reagan is equal parts what he achieved as President
and who he was as a man. Chris Matthews of CNBC said Reagan
was bathed in his own "field of charm." David Frum called his
a 'spine of steel, wrapped in gentility,' and the headline in the
National Post said President 'Never Lost a Friend.'

In The Frog and Prince we offer up what seems to some a rather
uncommon definition of networking: It's not all about you; it's
discovering what you can do for someone else. That is what positive
networking is all about. But during these days of reflection and
appreciation of an exceptional life of 93 years, our definition of
positive networking rings true even with the skeptics, Ronald Reagan
truly was one of the world's greats networkers. His stories, kindness
and respect for others are legendary.

Ronald Reagan was not just the great communicator, but he was the great
connector. From the thousands of letters he wrote to family, friends,
politicians and citizens to his ability to bring people-a country-together.
His network was vast, and for the majority of his life he was a powerful
man who traveled in the highest circles. But even as president, he did not
forget even the smallest courtesy. Journalist Peter Goodspeed quotes a
Canadian student who sent a letter to Ronald Reagan and received a reply
from the American president, 'It was a kind act from a man who let me into
his life.' Ronald Reagan was a model for all of us who want to live our personal
and professional lives 'discovering what we can do for someone else.'

Darcy Rezac said, "While not all successful people are great networkers,
all great networkers are successful people." Ronald Regan was both.
